Several countries have nukes or WMD's now, but it seems that certain countries aren't allowed to have nukes or WMD's. Do you think that is fair or right? I mean the country may not be friendly to your country, but do they not have the right to build WMD's as a deterrent? Lets face facts, a smaller country could never truly defend itself from a country with WMD's that was willing to use them.
For example, if the USA just drop tons of nukes on N Vietnam rather than sending in tons of ground troops, there would have been no contest. This is not meant to be a comment on the war, just a random example.
WMD's could also be an equalizer against a larger country. Much as a gun is an equalizer against a person of superior strength or hand to hand fighting skill. So with that being said, do you think that all nations should have the right to arm themselves with whatever weapons they please? Or should some countries not be allowed to develop certain weapons? Why? Or should no one have WMD's?|||This is a very difficult question. Yes, every country has the right to nukes, it is only fair. However, that being said, every country having nukes is going to lead to an apocolyptic war, so it is in the interest of the entire world to limit the proliferation of nuclear weapons.|||Only if the UN and several some superpowers allow them to.|||why not, the United States have them and so do Russia. If man weren't so stupid, they could see the we don't need any of them and learn that we can do without war.|||only if they have the freedom to|||What, the ability to destroy the world should be an 'inalienable right' up there with life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
I don't think so.
The world community polices it because in the hand of crazies with a suicide bomber mentality it could be a really bad thing for the entire world. "Rights" has nothing to do with it.
I freely admit it would have been better if no one had ever discovered how to make them. However, since it was knowledge waiting to be developed, it was inevitable someone would. That doesn't mean that it is a good idea for everyone to have them.|||I don't think anyone should have them. But if the US can, and a number of other "qualified" countries can, then the smaller ones should too. God knows they need the protection from people like Bush who go war-crazy.|||In some cases, we don't allow for WMD's to be built in places like N. Vietnam, Iran, ect. because we think that countries government or rebels could use it in wrong times. Rebels could be people like Jihadist and anarchist who have the knowledge to use these weapons against rival groups/countries.
With N. Vietnam and Iran, we don't trust the government, but with many Middle East countries, we don't like a weapon that could kill millions within a country were rebels are drooling for a weapons like that.
I believe when the first major WMD (The nuke) was used, it was a right decision in order to prevent tens of thousands of more solders to die while taking over the rest of japan.
But now that's over we should abolish WMD's down to countries allowed to hold them down to numbers that are miniscule, like less than 10.|||Why would you want some countries like Iran and North Korea to have nukes?|||If you believe in God given Free Will, then yes......|||It has nothing to do with fair or right. Our globe has the UN to make those decisions. The "random example" about the U.S. and North Korea is unappreciated. The USA would never drop a nuke on any country ever again. Japan was the last, and will be the last. But look what Japan is today, a global economic power, more so than ever before. Today, most Americans think the use of nuclear arms action or even the threat is wrong in the first place. It's uncivilized. WMDs in the hands of a radical, constantly threatening government should not be allowed. These governments need to be a part of the UN and sign treaties for their own protection, and then there will never be a threat of a nation attacking another nation. We might once and for all have a lasting peace in this world. I would ask you, currently what countries are not allowed to develop nuclear superiority or WMDs, and why?
