Why United Nations & Superpower Countries are not having all out war against Somali pirates?

Are they waiting to be a victim?|||There are a few solid reasons for this.

First of all, the cost of doing so. The United States, which is the largest military spender in the world, is already emptying it's pockets for the current war against terror. It cannot afford to wage ANOTHER war against a difficult enemy. Seeing that the United states is often case the leader of such endeavors, the other superpowers are unlikely to take action unless the US does so.

Secondly, similar to the war on terror, there is not an actual country or government to wage war against. We would just be fighting against the militants. The reason why this is difficult is as seen in the war on terror: we do not know who is an innocent citizen and who is a militant until they start shooting at us. However, we already have patrol boats off the Somali coast for the purpose of shooting back at those who shoot at us. Most of the superpower countries have some sort of protection for their merchant ships in the form of patrol boats.

Thirdly, the area that the pirates operate in in too vast. It is nearly impossible to enforce every square foot of those waters effectively. Therefore, unlike the land in the middle east, the superpowers cannot just station troops out in the water. Since the water is a somewhat dangerous place to be merely due to natural circumstances, it would be unwise to place soldiers out in the middle of the sea with only the limited resources that could fit in their patrol boats. The more resources and protection you give the soldiers, the bigger the ship needs to be. If you give the soldiers enough resources to stay out there for long periods of time, the ships will be less effective because the pirates use speed boats and the ships will not be able to catch up with them. Either you have too few resources or you have too big of a ship, both of which would be ineffective|||Because the world has become soft.

The only people that will do anything when attacked are the Russians and Israelis, both of whom would be condemned by the rest of the political world.

Us normal people would be quite happy to see our navies attack and wipe these criminals off the face of the earth.

Unfortunately this attitude is deemed "politically incorrect" by our illustrious leaders|||Because such a war would kill loads of innocent Somali's.|||They don't have either a war against Narco-communist countries such as Cuba and Venezuela.

The CIA is involved with Somali Pirates as they are involved with drug trafficking in the caribbean area.|||Good question! Something should be done, obviously.|||world's not so simple IS CORRECT...|||worlds not so simple
