So why do all European nations have below replacement level fertility rates?

Cant replace a population when women are only popping out 1 child on average, now can we? What exactly has caused this?|||Probably because Europeans understand the impact of overpopulation on this earth. Its the law of supply and demand. The more people on earth, the faster we use our resources, the quicker "quality of life" diminishes. Europe is smaller than other large land masses like the Americas, China, India. This is a common sense approach to global merging.|||This is a guess, but I'd say the culprit has to be women in Europe marrying at a later age, and increased abortion rates. It may well be that increased acceptance of gay lifestyle has something to do with it. Increased abortion rate in America is, in my opinion, also the reason that our economy is in the toilet. We are stashing our tax base in the dumpsters of America. I'm sure they have been doing the same thing in Europe. If this is for a college class, though, might be best not to put this in your paper, because if you're a social sciences major you may wind up on some department chairman's blacklist.|||people now expect a standard of living that requires 2 incomes. Women can't have as many children if they have to develop a career to support them first and then keep working while they raise the kids.

Not too many men these days actually want to have kids and a wife and be the provider.

Basically, it is eceonomics
